England's most Southerly point, THE LIZARD PENINSULA has a spectacular coastline with rugged cliffs and sandy bays.

There are small Cornish fishing villages like Cadgwith, Mullion and Coverack safe family beaches at Poldhu, Kynance cove and Kennack sands, cliff walks of outstanding beauty, and much more for the bird watcher and naturalist. There is also a gentler landscape not far away on the Helford and Fal river estuaries.
There is something for everyone, coastal or country walking, water sports at many locations, including windsurfing, boating or fishing from many of the small harbors.
It is also (according to the tourist brochures at least!) the warmest place in the country.

one of Cornwall's loveliest villages. It is crammed with cottages made from rough lumps of serpentine and roofed with thatch. The naturally protected cove is still home to a small fleet of crabbing boats which are winched up the shingle beach.

Mullion cove which is about 2 miles from the village was built as late as 1895. The tiny harbor on the wild western side of the Lizard was built to give protection to the Pilchard fishing.
Mullion harbor has a small sandy beach and is safe for swimming in quiet seas. It is owned by the National Trust. Dogs are allowed here all year round.

Poldhu beach
Poldhu Beach

Poldhu beach is safe to swim except at very low tides. There are professional lifeguards during the summer season which makes it very safe for children. There is a cafe and a car park. It is owned by the National Trust. Dogs are not allowed here from Easter to October.

This beauty spot has been a mecca for tourists since the 18th century. Brilliant turquoise water and white sand, with islands, caves and unexpected views are still a powerful draw today. Once remote and difficult to get to, The National Trust built a new toll road to a large car park on the downs above the cove. There is still a steep climb down to the beach but the views from above can now be enjoyed by the less energetic. The area abounds with rare botanical plants.
This is a beautiful sandy cove surrounded by moorland and owned by the National Trust. It is safe for swimming in quiet seas. There is a car park and cafe. Dogs are not allowed here from Easter to October.

Kennack Sands was voted the cleanest sandy beach in the UK (BBC2 Nature) - and was the winner of the Rural Seaside Award 1999, 2000 and 2001.
Kennack is a double sandy beach with a cafe and close parking. Swimming is safe in quiet seas. Dogs are allowed on the second beach all year round.

This lovely fishing village on the east coast has a tiny harbor built of local stone in 1724.
